Vincent Paul Logan (born June 30, 1941 – died January 14, 2021) was an important leader in the Catholic Church in Scotland. He served as the ninth bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunkeld. A bishop is a high-ranking priest who oversees a specific area, called a diocese. The Dunkeld diocese was re-established by Pope Leo XIII in 1878. Bishop Logan was one of eight Catholic bishops serving in Scotland until he retired.

Early Life and Education

Vincent Logan was born in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland, on June 30, 1941. He was the second youngest of five brothers. Like many young people who wanted to become priests back then, Vincent went to a special school called a junior seminary. He attended St Mary's College at Blairs, near Aberdeen, for his high school education.

After high school, he continued his studies at St Andrew's College, Drygrange, near Melrose in the Scottish Borders. He worked hard and was ordained as a priest on March 14, 1964. He then began his service in the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

Becoming a Bishop

Father Logan worked in several churches and eventually became a leader in religious education for his area. He was chosen to become a bishop by a very important church leader, Cardinal Gordon Gray.

On February 26, 1981, Vincent Logan officially became a bishop in a special ceremony at Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Dundee. He was only 39 years old at the time, which made him one of the youngest Catholic bishops in the world!

Retirement and Passing

In 2010, Bishop Logan announced that he would be retiring. He was 69 years old and felt that his health made it difficult for him to continue his full duties as a bishop. Pope Benedict XVI accepted his retirement from the role of Bishop of Dunkeld on July 6, 2012.

Bishop Logan passed away on January 14, 2021, in Monifieth. He died from COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland.
