Vineland is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern part of Marengo County, Alabama, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with people living there, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
In the past, Vineland was a busy place. It had several stores where people could buy things. There was also a cotton gin, which was a machine used to separate cotton fibers from their seeds. The community had both Baptist and Methodist churches for people to worship.
Vineland even had its own post office for many years, from 1887 to 1916. The first person to be in charge of the post office was Julius A. Kimbrough. The last postmaster was Solomon S. Strickland.
The wider area around Vineland, which included other small communities like Surginer and Hampden, was once known as Pineville Precinct. It's interesting to note that "Pineville" was also an early name for another place called Putnam in the same county.
