Vinland is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. It is located south of Lawrence and north of Baldwin City.
History
The first settlement was made at Vinland in 1854. In 1859, the first public library in the state was founded in this community. The community was not legally platted until the 1860s. A post office was opened in Vinland in 1868, and remained in operation until 1954. The name of Vinland probably alludes to the early settlers' vineyards.
The Vinland Grange Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
