Vintondale is a small town, called a borough, in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania area, which is a larger group of towns and cities. In 2020, about 412 people lived there.

History of Vintondale
Vintondale was started in 1892 by Warren Delano IV. He was the uncle of a famous president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Warren Delano IV owned land and was also the mayor of the town.
Mining in Vintondale
The Vinton Colliery Company was a big business in Vintondale. It had six mines and 152 ovens that made coke, a fuel from coal. This company also used a new way of mining called "long wall mining."
The town saw many disagreements between the company's guards and workers who wanted to form a union. In 1922, during a workers' strike, a lawyer named Arthur Garfield Hays was put in the town's small jail. He worked for the American Civil Liberties Union, a group that helps protect people's rights. He was released after only 30 minutes.
Eliza Furnace Historic Site
North of Vintondale, you can find the old Eliza Furnace. This historic furnace used to make iron. At its busiest, it made about 1,080 tons of iron each year. Over 90 men and boys worked there, along with 45 mules. The furnace is now on the Ghost Town Trail, a popular path for walking and biking. It was added to the list of important historical places in 1991.
Geography of Vintondale
Vintondale is located on the western edge of Cambria County. It sits along the South Branch of Blacklick Creek. The town is also about halfway along the Ghost Town Trail. This trail is a path built on old railroad lines, stretching through Cambria and Indiana counties.
Vintondale is about 13 miles (21 km) west of Ebensburg, which is the main town of Cambria County. It is also about 14 miles (23 km) north of the city of Johnstown. The borough of Indiana is about 21 miles (34 km) southeast.
The United States Census Bureau says that Vintondale covers a total area of about 0.49 square miles (1.26 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.47 square miles (1.22 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.02 square miles (0.04 square kilometers), is water.
Art and Nature in Vintondale
Vintondale is home to Litmus Gardens, which is an environmental art project. This means it's a place where art is made using nature and the environment. A landscape architect named Julie Bargmann worked with artists, historians, and local people. They helped turn areas affected by acid mine drainage into the Vintondale Reclamation Park. Acid mine drainage is polluted water from old mines. The park helps clean this water and makes the area beautiful again.
