A Look Back: Viola's History
Viola began when the Santa Fe railroad built a new line through the area. This happened in the 1870s, bringing new life to the settlement.
The first post office opened in Viola in 1877. However, it was first called Peotone. The name changed to Viola in 1899.

Viola is found at 37°29′1″N 97°38′42″W / 37.48361°N 97.64500°W. This means it is in the northern hemisphere. The city is southwest of Wichita, a much larger city. You can find Viola on Highway 42. It is also near the intersection of Highway 49.
The United States Census Bureau says Viola covers a total area of about 0.16 square miles (0.43 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large lakes or rivers within the city limits.
