Vladimir Sergeyevich Lisin (born 7 May 1956) is a Russian businessman. He is known for his work in the steel industry. He is the chairman and main owner of Novolipetsk (NLMK). This is one of the biggest steel companies in Russia.
In 2024, he was ranked as one of the richest people in Russia and the world.

Vladimir Lisin's Early Career
Vladimir Lisin started working in 1975. His first job was as an electrical fitter in a Soviet coal mine. Later, he became a welder foreman at Tulachermet Metals Works.
He worked his way up in the company. By 1979, he was a section manager. In 1986, he became a deputy chief engineer.
Building a Steel Business
In 1992, Vladimir Lisin joined a group of traders. This group was called the Trans-World Group. They gained control of Russia's steel and aluminum industries.
When the partners separated in 2000, Lisin received a part of the company. He later gained full control of Novolipetsk Steel. He became its sole owner in 2000.
Since 1993, he has been on the board of directors for several Russian metal companies. These include NLMK, MMK, and others. He has been the chairman of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) since 1998.
His business interests go beyond steel. He also has stakes in transportation and logistics companies. These include ports and shipping companies. He also has interests in energy and utility companies in Russia.
Education and Expertise
Vladimir Lisin has a strong background in metallurgy. He graduated from the Siberian Metallurgic Institute in 1979. He earned a diploma in metallurgical engineering.
He continued his studies and earned several advanced degrees. In 1989, he received an MSc in metal engineering. He also earned an MSc in Economics and Management in 1992.
He later earned a PhD in metallurgical engineering in 1997. In 2005, he earned another doctorate in economics. He is also a professor at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy.
Lisin holds many patents for how metals are made. He has written over 100 articles and 15 books about metallurgy and economics. He has received awards like the "Honorary Metallurgist of Russia."
Sports and Leadership
Vladimir Lisin is very interested in shooting sports. He was the president of the European Shooting Confederation. He also led the Russia Shooting Union.
He has been a vice president of the Russian Olympic Committee. In 2013, he joined the ISSF Executive Committee. He built a large shooting range complex near Moscow called Lisya Nora.
In 2018, Lisin was elected president of the International Shooting Sport Federation.
Personal Life
Vladimir Lisin is married and has three children. In 2005, he bought Aberuchill Castle in Scotland.
In March 2022, Lisin spoke about the importance of peace. He wrote to his staff at NLMK, saying that "Lost lives are always a huge tragedy." He believes that solving problems through talking is better than using force.
