Vladimir Sergeyevich Lisin (born 7 May 1956) is a Russian businessman. He is known for being the chairman and main owner of Novolipetsk (NLMK). NLMK is one of the biggest steel companies in Russia.
As of 2025, he is one of the richest people in Russia and among the wealthiest in the world.

Early Life and Career
Vladimir Lisin started working in 1975. His first job was as an electrical fitter in a Soviet coal mine. Later, he worked as a welder foreman at Tulachermet Metals Works. He moved up in his career, becoming a section manager and then a shop manager by 1979. In 1986, he became a deputy chief engineer.
In 1992, he joined a group of traders. This group gained control of Russia's steel and aluminum industries. When the group split up in 2000, Lisin received a part of the company. He later became the sole owner of Novolipetsk Steel in 2000.
Since 1993, he has been a board member for several Russian metal companies. These include NLMK, MMK, and aluminum plants. He has been a board member of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) since 1996. He became its chairman in 1998. He also worked as a deputy chief engineer at the Karaganda Steel Plant in Kazakhstan.
Lisin has also been involved in other businesses. These include transportation, shipping, and energy. He controls these businesses through a company called Fletcher Group Holdings. In 2023, he moved some of his business assets to companies registered in Abu Dhabi.
Education and Expertise in Metals
Vladimir Lisin studied a lot about metals and engineering. In 1979, he graduated from the Siberian Metallurgic Institute. He earned a diploma in metallurgical engineering. This means he learned how to work with metals.
He continued his studies and earned several advanced degrees. In 1989, he received a Master of Science (MSc) in metal engineering. He also earned an MSc in Economics and Management in 1992. In 1997, he completed his PhD in metallurgical engineering. Later, in 2005, he earned another doctorate in economics.
Lisin holds many patents for how metals are processed. He has also written over 100 articles and 15 books about metallurgy and economics. He is a professor and has received awards for his work in science and engineering. He was named an Honorary Metallurgist of Russia in 1999.
Sports and Hobbies
Vladimir Lisin is very interested in shooting sports. He was the president of the European Shooting Confederation until 2021. He also led the Russia Shooting Union. He has been a vice president of the Russian Olympic Committee.
In 2013, Lisin became a member of the ISSF Executive Committee. The ISSF is the International Shooting Sport Federation. He built one of Europe's largest shooting ranges near Moscow, called Lisya Nora. In 2018, Lisin was elected president of the International Shooting Sport Federation.
Personal Life
Vladimir Lisin is married and has three children. He bought a historic castle in Scotland in 2005. It is called Aberuchill Castle.
In March 2022, Lisin sent a letter to his staff at NLMK. He called for a peaceful solution to conflicts. He wrote that "Lost lives are always a huge tragedy that is impossible to justify." He also stated that peaceful talks are always better than using force.
Some claims were made in September 2022 about NLMK's products. NLMK and Lisin responded to these claims. They stated that NLMK's Russian operations do not make steel for military use. They said their focus is only on making steel for everyday civilian products. They also said NLMK has never supplied military products to the Russian military. Regarding some ships, the company sold them in September 2022 because they were not profitable.
