Volney is a town located in Oswego County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 5,926 people lived there. The town was named after a French writer, Constantin François de Chassebœuf, comte de Volney. He visited the area in 1808. The Town of Volney is in the middle of Oswego County.

History of Volney
The Town of Volney was created in 1806. It was formed from a part of the Town of Mexico. Its first name was Fredericksburgh. This name was changed to Volney in 1811.
A special building called the First Congregational Church and Society of Volney is in the town. In 2001, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes important places in the United States that are worth protecting.

The western edge of Volney is next to the Oswego River. This river helps mark the town's boundary.
