Waddington is a small village in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. It is part of the larger Town of Waddington. In 2020, about 937 people lived there. The village got its name from Joshua Waddington, one of the original landowners.
The Village of Waddington is located at the northern edge of its town. It is north of another village called Canton.

History of Waddington
The first people to settle in this area arrived around the year 1798.
The village was first named "Hamilton" after Alexander Hamilton. But in 1818, its name was changed to Waddington. This was to honor Joshua Waddington, who was a friend of Hamilton and owned some of the first lands here. The village officially became a village in 1839. Later, when the larger Town of Waddington was created, it took the same name as the village.
During the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway, some parts of the village had to be moved. Some old industrial areas were also taken down.
The Waddington Historic District is a special area in the village. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. This means it is an important historical site.
Geography of Waddington
Waddington covers about 2.4 square miles (6.13 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
The village is very close to the St. Lawrence River. This river forms the border between the United States and Canada. Waddington is also located on Ogden Island, which is in the St. Lawrence River.
Major roads like New York State Route 37 and New York State Route 345 meet in Waddington. County Road 44 also helps people get to the village from the southeast.
