Tasar Uddin was born in Bangladesh on April 17, 1952. His hometown was Moulvibazar in the Sylhet District. He went to Moulvibazar Government High School. When he was 15, in 1967, he moved to the United Kingdom.
In the UK, he studied at Putney College. He earned a special certificate called a Higher National Certificate (HNC). He also started working in restaurants in London. In 1975, he got married to Syeda. The next year, they moved to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Helping the Community

In 1984, he became a Justice of the peace. This was a very important role. He was the first person from Bangladesh to hold this job.
