Walnford is a small, unincorporated community located in Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey. An "unincorporated community" is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but is part of a larger township or county. Walnford gets its name from Richard Waln, who was the first owner of the land where the community now stands.

A Glimpse into Walnford's Past
How Walnford Began
The story of Walnford began in 1772. A businessman from Philadelphia named Richard Waln bought several mills in this area. Mills were very important back then because they used water power to grind grain into flour. Richard Waln decided to name the area "Walnford" after himself.
In 1773, he built a large, two-and-a-half-story house on his property. This house is still standing today! Richard Waln's son, Nicolas Waln, inherited the property. His family continued to live in the house for almost 200 years, which is a very long time!
