Walter Orlando Ayoví Corozo (born August 11, 1979) is a famous former football player from Ecuador. He played as a professional footballer, mostly as a left midfielder or left-back. He was known for his strong play on the left side of the field.

Walter played for many teams during his career, including Club Deportivo El Nacional in Ecuador. He also played for the Ecuador national team for many years. Fun fact: Walter is the cousin of another football player, Jaime Ayoví, who also played for the Ecuador national team! Walter also has Mexican citizenship.

Walter Ayoví's Club Career

Walter Ayoví played for several football clubs throughout his career. He started in Ecuador and later moved to play in Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

Starting with Emelec

Walter was born in Camarones, Esmeraldas, Ecuador. He began his professional career with Emelec. In 2002, he moved to Barcelona Sporting Club. Even though some European teams like Mainz 05 and Arminia Bielefeld were interested in him, Walter stayed with Barcelona until 2006.

Playing for El Nacional

After his time at Barcelona, Walter joined El Nacional. During this period, he also had a short loan spell with Al Wasl Club in Dubai, which is in the United Arab Emirates.

Time with Monterrey

In 2009, Walter joined Club de Futbol Monterrey in Mexico. He quickly showed his skills, scoring his first goal for the team in February 2009. Monterrey was so impressed that they decided to buy him permanently in March 2009. He played for Monterrey for several years, becoming a key player for them. He even renewed his contract with the club in 2011.

Moving to Pachuca and Dorados

After a successful time with Monterrey, Walter played for Pachuca for two seasons. In 2015, he signed with Dorados de Sinaloa, a team that had just moved up to a higher league. He joined some of his fellow Ecuadorian players there.

Returning to Monterrey

In December 2015, Walter Ayoví made a comeback to his former team, the Rayados de Monterrey. He played for them again, showing his loyalty to the club.

Indoor Football with Monterrey Flash

In 2022, Walter returned to professional football, but this time in a different style! He signed with the Monterrey Flash, an indoor football team in the Major Arena Soccer League.

Walter Ayoví had a long and important career playing for the Ecuador national team. He represented his country in many big tournaments.

Early World Cup Experiences

Walter was chosen for the Ecuador squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He was one of the youngest players on the team, but he didn't get to play in any matches during that tournament. He was also a regular player for Ecuador when they qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. However, he was surprisingly not included in the final team for that World Cup.

Copa América and World Cup Qualifiers

He did get to play in the 2007 Copa América tournament. He even scored a great goal from a free kick in a friendly match before the tournament. Walter became a very important player for Ecuador in the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He scored two goals against Peru in a big 5–1 win. In 2009, he scored against Argentina, helping Ecuador win 2–0.

2014 FIFA World Cup

During the qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Walter played in all 16 games for Ecuador. His strong play helped his team qualify for the World Cup finals. At the tournament, he played every minute of Ecuador's matches, starting as a left-back in all three of their group games.

Reaching 100 Caps

On March 31, 2015, Walter played his 100th game for Ecuador! This is a huge achievement for any football player. It happened in a friendly match against Argentina. Later that year, he was part of Ecuador's team for the 2015 Copa América. He even captained the team in their first match against Chile.
