Walter Marven Borden, born on July 20, 1942, is a talented Canadian actor, poet, and playwright. He grew up in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He has appeared in many films and TV shows, including Nurse.Fighter.Boy, The Event, Gerontophilia, Lexx, and Platinum.

A Star on Stage
Walter Borden is especially well-known for his work in theater. He joined the Neptune Theatre company in Halifax in 1972. Since then, he has performed in plays all across Canada.
Famous Plays and Roles
He has acted in many classic plays by William Shakespeare, such as Hamlet, Richard III, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, and Henry VIII. He also performed in Agamemnon by Aeschylus and The Flies by Jean-Paul Sartre. Other notable roles include parts in God's Trombones: Seven Negro Sermons in Verse by James Weldon Johnson, Orpheus Descending and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, and Harlem Duet and The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God by Djanet Sears. Since 2003, he has been a member of the famous Stratford Festival of Canada.
Music and Poetry
Beyond acting, Walter Borden has also created an album. It's called Walter Borden Reads Shakespeare's Sonnets to the Music of Fernando Sor. He worked with classical guitarist Paul Martell on this project.
His Own Stories
Walter Borden has also written and performed his own plays. One of his most famous works is an autobiographical play called Tightrope Time: Ain't Nuthin' More Than Some Itty Bitty Madness Between Twilight and Dawn. This play was important because it was one of the first plays in Black Canadian literature to share personal stories from his life.
In 2023, a powerful version of his work, The Last Epistle of Tightrope Time, was shown in cities like Halifax, Toronto, and Ottawa. It was directed by the talented Peter Hinton. This play was later published by Nimbus Publishing. He has also written other works, including Testifyin' and Tellin' It Like It Is.

Awards and Recognition
Walter Borden has received many awards for his contributions to arts and culture.
- He was given the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.
- He received the African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA) Music Heritage Award.
- He won the Portia White Prize, which is given each year to someone who has made a big difference in culture and arts in Nova Scotia.
- In 2006, he was named a Member of the Order of Canada, which is one of the highest honors in Canada.
- In 2007, the Black Theatre Workshop awarded him the Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award for his outstanding work as a theater actor.
