Walter Dubislav was a German thinker who studied logic and the philosophy of science. He was born on September 20, 1895, and passed away on September 17, 1937.
Life and Work
Walter Dubislav studied mathematics and philosophy. In 1922, he earned a special degree called a doctorate. His work was about how to define ideas and prove things in mathematical logic.
Teaching Career
In 1928, Dubislav started teaching at the Technical University of Berlin. He taught about the philosophy of math and the natural sciences. By 1931, he became a special professor there. In 1936, he moved to Prague.
The Berlin Circle
Walter Dubislav helped start a group called the 'Berlin Society for Empirical Philosophy'. He founded it with Hans Reichenbach and Kurt Grelling. This group, along with another called the Vienna Circle, helped create a way of thinking called logical empiricism.
Logical empiricism is a philosophy that says knowledge comes from experience and logic. The people who started the Berlin Circle were also connected to the Vienna Circle.
His Ideas
Dubislav was very interested in making math and physics very clear and logical. He was inspired by a book called "Theory of Science" by Bernard Bolzano. Dubislav also worked on making Gottlob Frege's ideas about definitions more formal and structured.
