Schools in Walton
Walton has seen some changes in its schools over the years. In September 2007, the Walton County Infant School and Junior School joined together. They formed one single Primary School for younger students.
Around the same time, Walton Comprehensive School closed its doors in July 2007. Secondary school students now attend Queen Katharine Academy. This school first opened in September 2007 as The Voyager School, but its name later changed.
Shops and Businesses
Walton is a busy place with many shops and businesses. It has a large shopping area called Brotherhoods retail park. Here, you can find a big Morrison's supermarket. There are also two drive-thru restaurants for quick meals.
The retail park is home to five other large shops. Beyond this main shopping area, there is an industrial estate. This area has car dealerships, gyms, and places for storing and moving goods. You can also find more supermarkets and a post office here.
A Bit of History
Walton used to be its own small administrative area called a "civil parish." This happened in 1866. A civil parish is a local government area, often based on an old church parish.
However, on April 1, 1929, the Walton parish was officially ended. It became part of the larger city of Peterborough. In 1921, the population of the Walton parish was 1,118 people.
