The Wangen District was a special area in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Think of it like a county or a region within a larger state. Its main town, or capital, was Wangen an der Aare.
This district covered about 129 square kilometers and was made up of 23 smaller towns and villages, which are called municipalities. The Wangen District no longer exists today. On December 31, 2009, it joined with another district, Aarwangen District, to form a new, larger area called Oberaargau.

What Was the Wangen District?
The Wangen District was one of 26 administrative districts in the canton of Bern. These districts helped manage local government and services for the people living there.
Location and Size
The district was located in the canton of Bern, which is one of the 26 cantons (like states) in Switzerland. It had an area of about 129 square kilometers. To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of a medium-sized city.
Main Town
The capital of the district was Wangen an der Aare. This town was important for the district's administration and was a central place for its residents.
Changes Over Time
Like many places, the boundaries and structure of the Wangen District changed a bit over the years.
Joining Other Areas
In 2008, the municipality of Oberönz became part of Herzogenbuchsee. Then, in 2009, two more municipalities, Wanzwil and Röthenbach bei Herzogenbuchsee, joined the municipality of Heimenhausen. These changes helped make local government more efficient.
Becoming Part of Oberaargau
The biggest change happened at the end of 2009. The Wangen District, along with the Aarwangen District, was combined to create the new Oberaargau district. This was part of a larger plan to reorganize how the canton of Bern was managed.
