Ward is a small town located in Allegany County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 331 people lived there. The town was named after a person called Hamilton Ward.
Ward is in the southeastern part of Allegany County. It is located north of the village of Wellsville.
History
The first person to settle in the area that is now Ward arrived around 1817. The town of Ward was officially created in 1856. It was formed from parts of two other towns: Alfred and Amity.
The only important community in Ward is Phillips Creek. People first settled there between 1830 and 1835.
In the summer of 1838, a very strong windstorm hit the area. This storm caused a lot of damage and some people lost their lives.
Geography
Ward covers a total area of about 29.2 square miles (75.6 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.03%, is water.
NY 244 is a main road that goes from east to west through the northern part of the town.

Places in Ward
- Phillips Creek – This is a small community, also called a hamlet. It is located near the northern border of the town on Route 244. A nearby stream also called "Phillips Creek" gives the community its name.
- Vandermark Creek – This is a stream that flows towards the southwest.
