Warren Hughes (born on January 19, 1969) is a professional racing driver from Sunderland, England. He has competed in many different types of races.
He is well-known for racing in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2005, he won the LMP2 category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He drove for the RML Group team with Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton. Warren also had a chance to test Formula 1 cars for the Lotus and Williams teams when he was racing single-seater cars.
Today, Warren Hughes mostly works as a coach for other race car drivers. He still races sometimes, like when he finished third in a GT4 McLaren at the 2021 Gulf 12 Hours race in Bahrain.

Warren's Racing Journey
Starting Out in Racing

Warren Hughes began his car racing career in 1989. He started in the British Formula Ford Junior 1600 series. In his very first race, he finished third, even ahead of future Formula 1 driver David Coulthard. The next year, in 1990, he won the Junior FF1600 series.
He then moved up to other single-seater races. These included the British Formula 3 Championship and the Formula Three Japan. In 1991, he also finished second overall in the Formula Vauxhall Lotus series.
Switching to Touring Cars
In 1996, Warren tried something different. He raced in the German STW series with Ford. He also tested a Ford Mondeo for the British Touring Car Championship. In 1999, he entered the MGF Cup and won the championship. He won seven out of 14 races and set 11 fastest laps.
In 2000, he raced in the Italian Formula 3000 series. He finished second in the championship, showing he was a very strong driver. That same year, he tested for the Williams Formula One team. He also made his first appearance in the British GT Championship.
Racing with MG (2001–2003)
In 2001, Warren Hughes became a factory driver for MG. He raced for them at the 2001 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also joined the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) with the new MG ZS car.

In 2002, MG entered the BTCC from the start of the season. Warren won two races that year. He finished sixth overall in the championship. He also raced at the 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans again, but the team had to stop early due to a gearbox problem.
In 2003, MG continued in the BTCC. Warren won one race and finished seventh in the championship. At the end of 2003, MG stopped their racing program. This meant Warren had to leave the team.
New Challenges (2004–2006)
After leaving MG, Warren raced in many different series in 2004. He won a race in the British GT Championship at Oulton Park. He also competed in the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans Series.
The year 2005 was a big one for Warren. He won the LMP2 category at the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans. This was a huge achievement in one of the world's most famous endurance races. He drove an MG-Lola EX264-Judd for the RML Group team. He also continued to race in the British GT Championship and the Le Mans Series.
In 2006, Warren raced in the 24 Hours of Daytona for the first time. He also continued in the Le Mans Series. He won two races that season and finished third in the championship with his teammate Robert Bell.
Racing in Le Mans Series (2007–2009)
In 2007, Warren joined Embassy Racing for the Le Mans Series. He raced a Radical SR9-Judd car. He also raced at the 2007 24 Hours of Le Mans again, but the team had an accident. He finished the 2007 LMS season in seventh place.
He stayed with Embassy Racing for the 2008 Le Mans Series season. They had a new car, the Embassy WF01-Zytek. He also raced for Embassy at the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, the team had to stop early due to mechanical problems. At the end of 2008, Embassy Racing closed down because of economic problems. This left Warren without a full-time team for 2009. He only made one appearance that year, finishing fourth at the 2009 1000 km of Silverstone.
Busy Seasons (2010–2012)
The year 2010 was very busy for Warren. He raced in the LMS and the FIA GT1 World Championship. He won a race in the GT1 championship at Silverstone. He also finished the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans in 20th place overall, which was seventh in his class. He also won a class race in the LMS at Silverstone.
In 2011, Warren joined Team WFR for the new SPEED Euroseries. He and his teammate Jody Firth had a great season. They won three races and took eight podium finishes, becoming champions. He also raced at the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA GT1 World Championship.
In 2012, Warren raced for Murphy Prototypes at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the European Le Mans Series. He also returned to the British GT Championship with Team WFR. He and Jody Fannin dominated the GT4 category, winning eight out of ten races. They won the GT4 championship title by a large margin.
Recent Racing and Coaching (2013–Present)
In 2013, Warren moved up to the GT3 category in the British GT Championship. He raced an Audi R8 LMS for M-Sport Racing. He had some good results, including a second-place finish at Rockingham.
Today, Warren Hughes is a respected driver coach. He works with young drivers to help them improve their skills. He has coached for teams like Hitech Racing and Double R Racing. He also works with the W Series, coaching drivers like triple champion Jamie Chadwick. Warren is also a coach for McLaren's worldwide Pure McLaren track program and their GT Driver Development Programme.
