Warren Hughes began his racing career in 1989. He started in the British Formula Ford Junior 1600 series. The very next year, in 1990, he won this championship. He then moved up to faster single-seater cars. These included the British Formula 3 Championship and Formula Three Japan.

In 1996, he briefly tried touring car racing in Germany. He also won the MGF Cup in 1999. But he didn't fully switch from single-seater racing until 2001. That year, he joined the MG team. He raced in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the BTCC.

Racing with MG (2001–2003)

From 2001 to 2003, Warren was a factory driver for MG. His first race for them was the 2001 24 Hours of Le Mans. He drove the new MG-Lola EX257 car. Unfortunately, the car had engine problems and had to stop early. After that, he raced the MG ZS in the British Touring Car Championship. He even got the team's first pole position.

In 2002, MG entered the BTCC from the start of the season. Warren won two races that year. However, the MG cars couldn't always keep up with the Vauxhall cars. He also raced at the 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans again. But his car had a gearbox problem and retired early.

For 2003, MG had fewer cars in the BTCC. Warren won one race that year. At the end of 2003, MG stopped its racing program. This meant Warren had to leave the team.

New Teams and Big Wins (2004–2006)

After leaving MG, Warren didn't have a regular team in 2004. He raced in some events in the British GT Championship. He even won a race at Oulton Park with Gruppe M Racing. He also competed in the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans Series.

In 2005, Warren raced in the 12 Hours of Sebring with Team LNT. He later won a class race at the 1000 km of Spa. The biggest win that year was at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He drove for RML Group and won the LMP2 category. This was a huge achievement for him.

In 2006, Warren raced in the 24 Hours of Daytona. He continued with Team LNT in the 2006 Le Mans Series season. He won two races that season. These wins helped him finish third in the championship.

Challenges and Comebacks (2007–2009)

In 2007, Warren joined Embassy Racing. They raced a Radical SR9 car in the Le Mans Series. The season started with some tough luck and retirements. He also raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans but had to stop due to an accident. Later in the season, he achieved a second-place finish.

For 2008, Embassy Racing used a new car, the Embassy WF01. They also entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. But mechanical problems forced them to retire. At the end of 2008, Embassy Racing closed down. This was due to money problems.

Because of this, Warren didn't have a full-time drive in 2009. He only raced once, finishing fourth at the 1000 km of Silverstone.

Busy Seasons and Championships (2010–2012)

The year 2010 was very busy for Warren. He raced in several different series. He won a race in the FIA GT1 World Championship at Silverstone. He also finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since his 2005 win. He took a class win in the Formula Le Mans series.

In 2011, Warren joined Team WFR for the new SPEED Euroseries. He and his teammate Jody Firth had a great season. They won three races and took eight podiums. They were crowned champions of the series. He also raced in the FIA GT1 World Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For 2012, Warren raced for Murphy Prototypes in the European Le Mans Series. He also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But mechanical issues kept him from finishing well. However, he returned to the British GT Championship with Team WFR. He and Jody Fannin dominated the GT4 category. They won eight of ten races and took the championship title.

Recent Racing (2013–Present)

In 2013, Warren moved up to the GT3 category in the British GT Championship. He raced for M-Sport Racing. He had a strong start, finishing second at Rockingham. He later joined Team WRT and continued to race in GT3.

Warren still races sometimes. In 2021, he finished third in a GT4 McLaren at the Gulf 12 Hours in Bahrain.
