Washington is a small community in Nevada County, California. It was first called Indiana Camp. This place sits right by the South Yuba River.

History of Washington

This area was settled in 1849 by miners who came from Indiana. Because of this, they first named the place Indiana Camp. In 1850, the name was changed to Washington.

The town also had a post office. The Washington South Yuba post office was open from 1852 to 1854. Later, the Washington post office opened in 1862.
