About Waterman Creek

Waterman Creek is an important part of the local environment. It helps carry water from the Santa Cruz Mountains down to Pescadero Creek. This creek is home to different kinds of wildlife.

Helping Fish in Waterman Creek

For many years, a very old dam was in Waterman Creek. This dam was made of logs and was about 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall. It had been there for about 100 years. The dam stopped fish, like steelhead trout, from swimming upstream. They could not reach the best places to lay their eggs.

In 2008, a group that works to protect nature gave money to help. They provided $32,000 to remove this old log dam. Removing the dam was a big step. It allowed the steelhead trout to swim freely again. Now, they can reach more parts of the creek to spawn. This helps more young fish to be born and grow.
