Watseco is a small, quiet place located in Tillamook County, Oregon, in the United States. It's not a big city but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's a settled area that doesn't have its own local government like a city does.

Where is Watseco?

Watseco is nestled on the beautiful coast of Oregon. It's very close to two other small communities: Barview and Twin Rocks. These three spots are all found along a 3-mile (4.8 km) stretch of U.S. Route 101. This important highway runs between the towns of Rockaway Beach and Garibaldi.

How Watseco Got Its Name

The story of Watseco's name is quite interesting! Back in the early 1900s, two brothers named George and Robert Watt bought a large piece of land here. It was about 360 acres (146 ha) of beachfront property.

In 1912, a railway company called the Pacific Railway and Navigation Company was building its tracks through the area. The Watt brothers agreed to let the railway pass over their land. But they had one condition: the railway had to create a special stop on their property. This stop was known as a flag stop. It meant the train would only stop if someone waved a flag to get on, or if a passenger on the train asked to get off there.

In 1916, the community and the flag stop were officially named "Watseco." This name is a clever combination of the brothers' last name, "Watt," and "Sea Coast," because of its location by the ocean. There's even a stream called Watseco Creek that flows through the community, named after the station.
