Barview is a small, quiet community in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. The name "Barview" was given in 1884 by L. C. Smith. He named it for its amazing view of the "bar" at the entrance to Tillamook Bay. A "bar" here means a shallow area, often made of sand, at the mouth of a bay or river.

Where is Barview?

Barview is located very close to two other small communities. These are Twin Rocks and Watseco. All three communities are found along a part of U.S. Route 101. This section of the highway is about 3 miles (5 km) long. It connects the nearby cities of Rockaway Beach and Garibaldi.

The Historic Life-Saving Station

Barview is home to a very old and important building. It is called the Tillamook Life Saving Station. This station was built in 1908. It was designed by an architect named Victor Mindeleff. The station was part of the United States Life-Saving Service. This service was like an early version of the Coast Guard. Its job was to help sailors and ships that were in trouble at sea.

The Tillamook Life Saving Station is special because it's the only one of its kind left in Oregon. During World War II, the building was sold to private owners. Today, the main building and a smaller boathouse next to it are empty. They have been damaged over time. Because of its historical importance and its current condition, the building was listed as one of Oregon's Most Endangered Places in 2011. This list is created by the Historic Preservation League of Oregon. They want to help save important historical sites.
