Exploring the Delta Heritage Trail

A special trail called the Delta Heritage Trail passes right through Watson. This trail used to be a railroad line. In 1992, the Union Pacific Railroad stopped using this line. The land, which was about 73 miles (117 km) long, was given to the State of Arkansas.

Trail Construction and Nature Views

Parts of this old railroad line have been turned into the Delta Heritage Trail. The section of the trail near Watson is still being built. When finished, it will offer amazing views of nature. North of Watson, the trail goes through a wilderness area.

From the Yancopin Bridge, you can see the Arkansas River. From the Benzal Bridge, you can see the White River. Between these two bridges, the trail is planned to go through an old-growth hardwood forest. This forest is part of the Trusten Holder State Wildlife Management Area.
