Wen Fubo (Chinese: 文伏波; pinyin: Wén Fūbō) was a brilliant Chinese engineer. He was born on August 4, 1925, and lived until October 28, 2020. He was an expert in water conservation, which means he helped manage China's rivers and water supplies.

His Life Story

Wen Fubo was born in a place called Taojiang County in Hunan, China. When he was 18, in October 1943, he started studying at National Central University. He chose to major in water conservation. This field is all about how to build dams, control floods, and make sure people have enough clean water.

In 1944, during a difficult time, he joined a group called the Chinese Expeditionary Force. After a short time working for the government, he started his important work in water management. In October 1949, he joined the Nanjing Yangtze River Water Conservancy Bureau.

Just a few months later, in January 1950, he became an official at the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission. He worked his way up and became the director of this important commission in January 1986.

Wen Fubo was a key leader in designing two very big water projects in China. He was the design team leader for the Danjiangkou Water Control Project. He also worked on the famous Gezhouba Water Control Project. These projects are huge structures that help control rivers, produce electricity, and manage water for many people.

He retired from his long and successful career in July 2018. Wen Fubo passed away in Wuhan, Hubei, on October 28, 2020, at the age of 95.

Awards and Recognition

Wen Fubo received important awards for his amazing work:

  • In 1985, he won the State Science and Technology Progress Award. This was a special award for his work on the Gezhouba Water Control Project.
  • In 1994, he became a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). This is a very high honor for engineers in China, showing that he was one of the best in his field.
