Wes Littleton's Baseball Journey
Early Days and College Baseball
Wes Littleton went to Vista High School in Vista, California. After high school, he played college baseball for the Cal State Fullerton Titans at California State University, Fullerton. In the 2003 MLB draft, the Texas Rangers chose Wes. He was the 106th player picked overall in the fourth round.
Making His MLB Debut
Wes Littleton was a sidearm pitcher. This means he threw the ball from a lower angle, almost parallel to the ground. He made his first appearance in a Major League Baseball game on July 4, 2006. It was during a game where the Texas Rangers lost 3-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays. Wes pitched in the ninth inning. He faced two batters and got them both out.
A Record-Breaking Save
In baseball, a "save" is when a relief pitcher finishes a game and helps their team win. On August 22, 2007, Wes Littleton earned a very unusual save. He pitched the last three innings of a game where the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 30-3. The Rangers won by 27 runs, which was the biggest difference in score for a save in MLB history! The New York Times newspaper even wrote about how special this save was.
Moving to Other Teams
After his time with the Texas Rangers, Wes Littleton was traded to the Boston Red Sox on November 28, 2008. Later, on March 17, 2009, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed him. He also signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners on March 1, 2010. Wes played his last season in 2012 for the Amarillo Sox in an independent baseball league before he retired.
Life Outside Baseball
Wes Littleton has both African American and Samoan family backgrounds. When he wasn't playing baseball, he enjoyed working as a DJ.
