West Lake Restaurant, also called Xihulou (Chinese: 西湖楼; pinyin: Xīhúlóu), is a huge restaurant in Changsha, China. Changsha is the capital city of Hunan province. This restaurant is one of the biggest in the whole world!
It can seat 5,000 people at once. The Guinness Book of Records even says it's the largest Chinese restaurant in the world. It's also the biggest restaurant in all of Asia!

How West Lake Restaurant Started
The first Xihulou restaurant opened in Liuyang in 2000. A few years later, in early 2003, work began on a brand new, much larger restaurant. This new building was in Changsha.
After more than a year of building, the new West Lake Restaurant opened its doors. This big opening happened in October 2004.
What You'll Find Inside
The West Lake Restaurant is a huge place. It is about 20 minutes away from Changsha Huanghua International Airport. The whole area covers about 5.8 hectares, which is like 14 football fields!
The many buildings look like traditional Chinese palaces. The restaurant is split into four main parts:
- Area A: This part has 70 different rooms, both big and small. It also has a special hall where live shows happen every day.
- Area B: Here, you'll find ten fancy private rooms. They are designed to look like rooms in old Imperial Palaces.
- Area C: This area has nine more private luxury rooms for guests.
- Area D: This section is called "Snack Food Street." It's a place where you can try many different Chinese snacks.
Delicious Food and Many Chefs
The restaurant mostly serves traditional Chinese food. You can enjoy dishes from Hunan cuisine and Cantonese cuisine. These are two very famous types of Chinese cooking.
West Lake Restaurant has a lot of staff. About a thousand people work there! This includes 300 chefs who cook in five different kitchens. They use a lot of ingredients every week. For example, they use around 700 chickens and over 2,600 pounds of pork!

In May 2008, the BBC television channel showed a special series about the restaurant. It was part of their Storyville documentary show. The series was called The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World. It showed how the restaurant works behind the scenes.
