West Union is a small town located in Steuben County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 343 people lived there.
This town is in the southwest part of Steuben County. It is also south of the city of Hornell.
History
West Union was created in 1845. It was formed from a part of the Town of Greenwood.
When they were naming the new town, people suggested "Green" and "Union." However, these names were already used by other towns in New York. "Green" was used in Chenango County. "Union" was used in Broome County. So, they decided to combine parts of both names to create "West Union."
Geography
West Union covers about 41.1 square miles (106.32 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.1 square miles (0.38 square kilometers), is water.
The western edge of the town borders Allegany County. The southern edge of the town borders the state of Pennsylvania. Specifically, it borders Potter County in Pennsylvania.
New York State Route 248 is a main road that goes through the town.

- McGraws – This is another small village. It is located south of the main West Union village on NY-248.
- Rexville – This village is found on County Road 117, in the eastern part of the town.
- West Union – This is the main village of West Union. It is in the northwest part of the town on County Road 60 (Christian Hollow-West Union Road).
- Wileyville – This village is located on County Road 84, in the southern part of the town.
- Wileyville Creek – This is a stream that flows past Wileyville and out of the western side of the town.
