The West Wales Museum of Childhood was a special place in Wales that opened its doors in 2005. It was a museum dedicated to toys and childhood memories.
Where Was It?
The West Wales Museum of Childhood was located in a village called Llangeler. This village is near Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire, Wales. You could find it along the A484 road, which connects Carmarthen to Cardigan. The museum was also close to the River Teifi and not far from the Welsh National Woollen Museum, which is now known as the National Wool Museum.
The museum is no longer open in Wales. Its amazing collection of toys and childhood items has since moved to Wisbech, which is in Cambridgeshire, England.
What Could You See There?
The museum had more than 10,000 items on display! These items were spread across five different rooms, or galleries. Visitors could see all sorts of interesting things from childhood.
A World of Toys
The exhibits included many types of toys, such as:
- Dolls of all shapes and sizes
- Model trains and model cars
- Cute teddy bears
- Tiny toy soldiers
There were also fun pinball machines and many different games to explore.
Stepping Back in Time
The museum also showed what life was like in the past. It had:
- Old costumes
- A special room set up like a schoolroom from a long time ago
- Everyday household items that people used in the past
The West Wales Museum of Childhood was run by private owners. It did not receive money from the government or other outside groups. You can still see pictures of some of the museum's exhibits on the People's Collection Wales website. The museum was also recognized for its quality by VisitWales VAQAS, which is a special scheme from the Welsh Government.
