Westerfield is a railway station located in the village of Westerfield in Suffolk, England. It's an important spot because it's where two railway lines meet: the Felixstowe Branch Line, which goes to Felixstowe, and the East Suffolk Line, which goes to Lowestoft. The station is about 6 kilometers (3½ miles) east of Ipswich.
Westerfield is a small village just north of Ipswich, and the station is on the south side of the village. Because it's in a smaller area, not a huge number of people have used the station over the years. However, its role as a junction, where different train lines connect, has likely helped keep it open.

What is Westerfield Station?
Westerfield Station is a place where trains stop to pick up and drop off passengers. It's special because it acts as a "junction." Imagine a road where two different highways meet and cars can switch from one to the other; Westerfield Station is like that for trains.
Connecting Lines
The station connects two important train routes:
- The Felixstowe Branch Line takes trains to the port town of Felixstowe.
- The East Suffolk Line goes north towards Lowestoft.
This means trains from Ipswich can go to either Felixstowe or Lowestoft by passing through Westerfield.
How Busy is Westerfield Station?
While Westerfield is an important junction, it's not one of the busiest stations. The number of people using it has slowly grown over the years. For example, in 2004-2005, about 6,892 people used the station. By 2009-2010, this number had increased to 11,688. This shows that more people are discovering and using this local station.
