Western pattern diet facts for kids
The Western pattern diet, also called standard American diet, is a modern eating pattern. In the Western diet, processed meat, red meat, butter, fried foods, high-fat dairy products, eggs, high fructose corn syrup and certain sugary drinks. The modern Western diet came by way of fundamental lifestyle changes after the Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions.
The opposite is a healthy diet. Healthy diets have higher servings of fruit, nuts, fish, poultry and whole-grain foods.
A Western pattern diet is associated with an increased risk of being overweight or obese and diabetes mellitus.
