Westover is a city located in Shelby County, Alabama, in the United States. It is part of the larger Birmingham area. The city was officially started in 1901. It became an official city on January 31, 2001. At that time, about 961 people lived there.

History of Westover
Westover has an interesting past. One important building in the city is the Archer House. This house is so special that it is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. This means it is a protected historical site in Alabama.
Geography and Location
Westover is found at coordinates 33.378305 degrees North and 86.536849 degrees West. The U.S. Census Bureau says the city covers a total area of about 18.268 square miles (47.31 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 18.14 square miles (46.98 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.128 square miles (0.33 square kilometers), is water.
Main Roads and Travel
Westover is located along U.S. Highway 280. This is a very busy road in the northeastern part of Shelby County. If you travel on US 280, downtown Birmingham is about 26 miles (42 kilometers) to the northwest. Harpersville is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) to the east.
Future Developments
A very large project called Pine Mountain Preserve has been announced for Westover. This will be the biggest development of its kind in Alabama. It will cover 6,500 acres of land. The plans include a "Town Center" with parks, new city buildings like a City Hall and Library, fire stations, and places for businesses. There will also be several sites for new schools.
Education in Westover
Students in Westover attend schools that are part of the Shelby County School system. There are also several private schools in the area. In 2011, the City Council decided to offer land to the Shelby County Board of Education. This land is in the Chelsea Area School Zone and could be used for new schools.

Westover has been growing quite a lot recently. Many new neighborhoods have been built in the city. Some of these new places include Chelsea Square, Carden Crest, The Villages of Westover, Willow Oaks, and Yellowleaf Farms. More than 75% of the land in Westover is owned by companies that build homes and businesses.
