History of Westphalia
Westphalia was first recognized as a CDP by the U.S. Census Bureau for the 2010 census. This means it was an area the government specifically counted for population information. Later, for the 2020 census, some parts of Westphalia became part of a new CDP called Brown Station.

Future Plans for Westphalia
In 2007, the Prince George's County Council approved a special plan for the Westphalia area. This plan helps guide how the area will grow and develop in the future.
What the Plan Aims For
The plan imagines Westphalia as a "high-density, transit- and pedestrian-oriented urban town center." This means it will have many buildings, be easy to get around without a car, and be a lively central area. This town center will be surrounded by smaller "village centers" and many homes.
The plan suggests building:
- Between 14,000 and 15,300 new homes
- 4.5 million square feet of business space
- 750,000 square feet of shopping areas
A large 150-acre Central Park is also planned. It will be located just north of the new Town Center, right in the middle of Westphalia.
Education in Westphalia
Public schools in Westphalia are managed by Prince George's County Public Schools.

- Melwood Elementary School
- Middle schools:
