History of Westport
Westport was first planned out in 1882. When a town is "platted," it means that its streets, blocks, and lots are officially mapped out. This is usually done before buildings are constructed. A post office was opened in Westport in 1888. It helped people send and receive mail for many years, until it closed in 1966.
Geography and Location
Westport is located in the state of Minnesota. The city covers a total area of about 0.68 square kilometers (or 0.26 square miles). All of this area is land, meaning there are no lakes or large rivers within the city limits.
A main road, Minnesota State Highway 28, runs through Westport. This highway helps connect the community to other towns and areas nearby.
