History of Westwood
Westwood started as its own small town, called a village, on September 14, 1868. Later, on May 8, 1896, it officially became a part of the City of Cincinnati. This process is called being "annexed."
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Westwood was a quiet, rural area. Many wealthy people, like Procter & Gamble co-founder James Gamble, chose to live there because of its peaceful environment. After World War II, the neighborhood changed. More people with lower incomes moved into Westwood, while some wealthier residents moved to the suburbs outside the city.
