Wheat Crunchies facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Wheat Crunchies are a popular crispy snack made from wheat. They are produced by a British company called KP Snacks. You can find them in different yummy flavours like Spicy Tomato, Crispy Bacon, and Cheddar & Onion. A small bag you might get in a multipack usually weighs 20 grams, and a regular bag sold in shops is 30 grams.

The Story of Wheat Crunchies

Wheat Crunchies have been around for a while! In 1982, a company called Rowntree Mackintosh bought most of another company called Riley's Potato Crisps. This is how Wheat Crunchies became part of Rowntree's.

Later, in 1992, another snack company called Sooner Snacks was bought by Dalgety plc. Sooner Snacks then joined with Golden Wonder.

Golden Wonder changed hands a few times after that. In 1995, the people who managed Golden Wonder bought the company themselves. Then, in 2000, a company called Bridgepoint Capital bought Golden Wonder.

In 2006, Golden Wonder was sold again, this time to United Biscuits. After this, it joined with KP Snacks. Finally, in December 2012, KP Snacks itself was sold to a company called Intersnack.

A Fresh Start

In June 2012, United Biscuits gave Wheat Crunchies a fresh new look! They launched them again with a new logo and an "improved taste." They also added a new flavour: Cheddar & Onion. Plus, the snack pieces became a bit bigger!

What's Inside Wheat Crunchies?

The packaging for Wheat Crunchies promises that they do not contain any artificial colours or flavours. They also do not have MSG, which is a flavour enhancer.
