White Oak is a small town, called a borough, located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 7,630 people lived there. It's a suburb, which means it's a town near a bigger city, in this case, the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. White Oak got its name from a group of white oak trees that used to grow near where the town first started.

History of White Oak Borough
White Oak was once part of a larger area called Versailles Township. Long ago, there was a place called Fort Reburn here. This fort was a safe spot for the first people who settled in the area.
On March 21, 1948, people asked the County Court to create White Oak Borough. A few months later, on June 24, 1948, a judge officially made White Oak a new borough. The very first building for the borough's government was in the old Bowery School on Maple Street.

White Oak is located at coordinates 40°20′42″N 79°48′48″W / 40.34500°N 79.81333°W. This helps pinpoint its exact spot on a map.
The borough covers a total area of about 6.7 square miles. Most of this area is land, with only a small part, about 0.04 square miles, being water.
Neighboring Towns and Areas
White Oak shares its borders with five other places. To the north, it's next to North Versailles Township. To the east, you'll find North Huntingdon Township, which is in Westmoreland County.
To the southwest, White Oak borders South Versailles Township. To the south, it's next to Elizabeth Township. A small part of this southern border runs along the Youghiogheny River. Finally, to the west, White Oak is next to the city of McKeesport.
