The Whitefish station is a train stop in Whitefish, Montana. It's part of Amtrak's famous Empire Builder train route. Besides trains, a Greyhound Lines bus also stops here once a day. This bus connects Whitefish to nearby cities like Kalispell and Missoula. You can even rent a car right at the station!

The Stumptown Historical Society owns the station building and its parking lot. The BNSF Railway uses offices on the second floor. They also own the train tracks and the platform where people get on and off the trains.

About the Whitefish Train Station

The station building looks very old and special. It was built in a style called Tudor Revival. This style makes it look like buildings from old English times. Because it's so important and unique, the station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. It's officially known as the Great Northern Railway Passenger and Freight Depot and Division Office.

A Very Busy Train Stop

Whitefish station is the busiest train stop in all of Montana. It handles about 170 passengers every day! That's more than four times as many people as the next busiest station in Montana.

It's also the busiest stop on the Empire Builder route between the Pacific Ocean and St. Paul, Minnesota. The Empire Builder train stops at Whitefish for 20 minutes. This stop is important because it marks where one part of the BNSF railway ends and another begins.
