Whitethorn is a small community in Humboldt County, California, in the United States. It used to be called Thorn. Whitethorn is about 9.5 miles (15.3 km) southwest of Garberville. It sits at an elevation of 1,024 feet (312 meters) above sea level. About 817 people live here. Whitethorn is part of California's beautiful Lost Coast area and shares its ZIP Code, 95589, with Shelter Cove, California.
About Whitethorn
Whitethorn has its own post office. It first opened way back in 1888, then closed for a while, and reopened in 1951. In 1961, its name officially changed from Thorn to Whitethorn. You can find the post office near Thorn Junction, on the road that connects Shelter Cove and Whitethorn. Some areas in northern Mendocino County also get their mail through the Whitethorn post office.
