It is located along Nebraska Highway 2. This is a bit east of Hyannis, which is the main town in Grant County.

History of Whitman
Whitman began in the 1860s. This was when the railroad tracks were built and reached this spot. A railroad official named the community after a town called Whitman, Massachusetts.
The Tornado of 2024
On June 25, 2024, a tornado hit Whitman. It came suddenly, without much warning. The tornado caused damage to homes and trees in the area. It also affected two out of the three communication towers in Whitman. One person was hurt just south of the community.
