"Why Not" is a popular song by American actress and singer Hilary Duff. It was written by Charlie Midnight and Matthew Gerrard, who also produced the song. The song was released on April 15, 2003, by Walt Disney Records. It was the first single from The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack. A single is usually the first song released from an album to help promote it. A slightly different version of "Why Not" was later included on Hilary Duff's 2003 album, Metamorphosis.

Releasing the Song

Disney International released "Why Not" around the world on June 23, 2003. When the song was released as a CD single, it came with a special remix of "Why Not." It also included a remix of another song called "I Can't Wait" and the music video for "Why Not." Later in 2003, a slightly different version of "Why Not" was put on Hilary Duff's first album, Metamorphosis.

Different Song Versions

The song "Why Not" actually has three different versions.

  • The first version is the main one. Hilary Duff recorded it especially for The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack.

  • The third version came out on Hilary Duff's 2005 album, Most Wanted. This one is a slightly changed version of the song from the Metamorphosis album. The Metamorphosis album version also appears on her 2008 album, Best of Hilary Duff.

Music Video for "Why Not"

The music video for "Why Not" was directed by Elliott Lester. It was filmed in downtown Los Angeles. The video first appeared on the Disney Channel in April 2003. It was the first of Hilary Duff's videos to be shown on MTV. This happened after a viewer asked for it on the popular show Total Request Live. The video quickly became popular, reaching number six on the show's countdown.

In the video, Hilary Duff sings from a rooftop. These scenes are mixed with shots of people skipping, break dancing, and crowds running in the street. There are also close-up shots of other people singing along to the words. There are two slightly different versions of the music video. One version includes scenes from The Lizzie McGuire Movie, while the other does not.
