Widescreen facts for kids
Widescreen is a special way that video and movies are shown. It's like having a wider view of the world on your screen! This format is super popular for films and is now common for televisions and Computer monitors too.
Widescreen lets you see more of the image on your screen. Imagine looking through a window. Widescreen is like having a wider window, so you can see more of the scene around you.
Widescreen often refers to screens that have a 16:9 aspect ratio. This means that for every 16 inches the screen is wide, it is 9 inches tall. For example, a TV that is 32 inches wide would be 18 inches tall.
Many older television screens, especially from the 20th century, used a 4:3 aspect ratio. This means for every 4 inches wide, they were 3 inches tall. So, a 4:3 screen would look more like a square, while a 16:9 widescreen looks more like a rectangle stretched out sideways.
