Wild Horse Plains is a small place in South Australia. It is located on the eastern coast of Gulf St Vincent. This area is about 69 kilometers (43 miles) north-northwest of the main city of Adelaide city centre.

The name "Wild Horse Plains" comes from Thomas Day. Around 1870, he found many wild horses living in this area. The official boundaries for Wild Horse Plains were set in June 1997. These boundaries include the town of Wild Horse Plains, which was started in 1881. It also includes an older government town called Lorne.

History of Wild Horse Plains

The town of Wild Horse Plains was officially created in 1881. It was built along Port Wakefield Road. This road is an important route in the area.

Port Lorne Road forms most of the northern edge of Wild Horse Plains. This road also leads to the old town of Lorne.
