Willard is a small community in Wisconsin, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a recognized place but doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or town.
Willard is located within the town of Hendren in Clark County. It's about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west-southwest of another community called Greenwood. Willard even has its own post office with the ZIP code 54493.
History of Willard
The community of Willard, including its post office, was named after a person named Willard Foster. He was born in 1876 and passed away in 1945. Willard Foster was the youngest son of Nathaniel Caldwell Foster.
Nathaniel Foster started the Foster Lumber Company in Fairchild, Wisconsin. This company played a big role in founding Willard in 1911.
How Willard Grew
An old book from 1918, called History of Clark County, described Willard as a busy place. It was located along the Fairchild & Northeastern railroad line.
At that time, Willard had two stores, a factory that made cheese, a place for people to stay (a boarding house), a Catholic Church, and a school.

A few years before 1918, a person named Ignatz Ceznic started to bring groups of people from Slavic countries and similar backgrounds to settle in the wild areas of Hendren. Today, this area is full of successful farms. The village of Willard became the main place for these farmers to sell their goods and get supplies. Mr. Ceznic had help from the Foster Lumbering Company to do this important work.
