William Allen Young (born January 24, 1954) is an American actor and director. He has appeared in over 100 TV shows, plays, and movies. Some of his famous films include A Soldier's Story and District 9, which were both nominated for Academy Awards.
He is well-known for playing Frank Mitchell on the TV show Moesha. He also played Dr. Rollie Guthrie on the medical drama Code Black. Another important role was Judge Joseph Ratner on CSI Miami. William Allen Young has also appeared in many other TV shows. These include The Day After, General Hospital, Madam Secretary, and JAG.
He also helped make Hollywood more diverse. He worked to get more writers, actors, directors, and producers from different backgrounds into the industry. This happened through an important agreement in 2000.
Early Life and Education
William Allen Young was born in Washington, D.C.. He grew up in South Central, Los Angeles. This was during the time of the Civil Rights Movement. He was one of seven children.
His mother, Mother Joan Walker, was a big inspiration to him. She had left high school but later went back to get her diploma. She then became a nurse.
