William Beatty (1787–April 12, 1851) was an important figure in American politics. He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Pennsylvania. He also held several other public offices during his life.

Early Life and Public Service
From Ireland to America
William Beatty was born in 1787 in a place called Stewartstown, which is in County Tyrone, Ireland. When he was about 20 years old, in 1807, he moved to the United States. He decided to make his home in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Serving in the War of 1812
After moving to America, William Beatty joined the military. He became a sergeant in Captain Thompson's company during the War of 1812. This war was fought between the United States and Great Britain.
Local Government Roles
William Beatty was very active in his community. From 1823 to 1826, he worked as the sheriff for Butler County, Pennsylvania. A sheriff is a top law enforcement officer in a county. Later, from 1840 to 1842, he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Pennsylvania.
