Willie Hector, Jr. (born December 23, 1939) was an American football player. He played as an offensive guard. Willie played for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He was also part of the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Willie Hector's Early Life and High School Football

Willie Hector grew up in Mill Valley, California. He went to Tamalpais High School. While there, he played high school football. In 1956, he was named one of the best players in Northern California.

College Sports Career

Willie Hector went to the University of the Pacific. He played football for the Pacific Tigers. He was also a talented track and field athlete.

Track and Field Achievements

Willie competed in many track events. These included the hurdles, high jump, and long jump. He also ran the 100-yard dash. In 1961, during his senior year, he was named Pacific's best track athlete. Later, in 2001-02, he was added to the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame.

Professional Football Career

After college, Willie Hector was chosen by two professional football leagues.

NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Rams picked him in the fifth round of the 1961 NFL draft. He was the 60th player chosen overall.

AFL Draft

The San Diego Chargers also drafted him. They picked him in the tenth round of the 1961 AFL Draft. He was the 80th player chosen in that draft.

Playing for the Rams and Stampeders

Willie played twelve games for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1961 season. After that, he moved to Canada. He played for the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. He played one game in 1962 and five games in 1963.

Coaching Football

After his playing career, Willie Hector became a coach. He was the head football coach at Tamalpais High School. He coached there from 1965 to 1968.

Willie Hector's love for football continued in his family. Both of his sons, Zuri and Byron, also played football.

Zuri Hector played as a defensive back. He played for the USC Trojans. Byron Hector played football for the Cal Golden Bears.

Willie's grandson, Ayden Hector, is also a talented football player. He was a top high school player in the class of 2020. Ayden played for Eastside Catholic School in Washington. In his junior year, he was named to the all-state high school football team. This was after his team won the state championship.
