Wilson is a small place in the United States. It's special because it's located in two different states at the same time! Part of Wilson is in Garrett County, Maryland, and the other part is in Grant County, West Virginia. It's not a big city with its own government, but rather an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and people that aren't officially part of a town or city, but are still part of a larger county.
Discovering Wilson
Where is Wilson?
Wilson is found right along the North Branch Potomac River. This river helps mark the border between Maryland and West Virginia. If you were to travel about 2 miles (or 3.2 kilometers) southwest from a town called Bayard, you would find Wilson.
How Wilson Got Its Name
The community of Wilson was named after an early resident. His name was George W. Wilson, and he used to be the postmaster for the area. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office.
The Post Office in Wilson
For many years, the West Virginia side of Wilson had its own post office. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. However, this post office eventually closed down on July 16, 1988.
