The Winans family is a famous American family of gospel music artists from Detroit, Michigan. They are known for their amazing singing and for sharing their faith through music. Many family members have become successful musicians and singers.

Meet the Winans Family

The Winans family is quite large! It all started with David "Pop" Winans Sr. and Delores "Mom" Winans. They had ten children, and many of them became gospel music stars.

Many members of the Winans family have formed their own groups or become solo artists. They have won many awards for their music.

Mom and Pop Winans

Delores and David Winans, known as "Mom and Pop Winans," also recorded music together. They were even nominated for a Grammy Award in 1989. Delores still records music today. They first met while singing in a choir led by James Cleveland.

The Winans Brothers

The brothers Ronald, Carvin, Marvin, and Michael Winans formed a group called The Winans. They were discovered by gospel artist Andrae Crouch and released their first album, Introducing The Winans, in 1981. Their music was special because it blended gospel with R&B sounds, which helped it get played on different radio stations. The group stopped recording new music in 1995 but still come together for family projects.

David Winans II's Music

David Winans II is a talented musician who plays instruments. He started as a bassist and then played guitar for "The Winans." David also has his own Christian rock music projects. He has won many Detroit Music Awards for his songwriting and playing.

Ron Winans' Projects

Besides being part of The Winans, Ron released his own music. He also created a series of five CDs called Ron Winans Family & Friends, where he sang with other artists. Ron also helped start a restaurant chain. Ronald Winans passed away in 2005.

Carvin Winans was a key member of The Winans. He wrote and produced some of their albums. In 1987, he even sang backup for Michael Jackson on his famous Bad album.

Marvin Winans' Ministry and Music

Marvin Winans is a pastor at Perfecting Church in Detroit. He continues to record albums with his church choir, called Marvin Winans and the Perfected Praise Choir. Marvin also started the Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts in 1997, which helps young people learn about the arts.

Michael Winans has recorded several songs and albums with his wife, Regina. Their children, Mike Jr. and LaShay, have also sung on their albums.

BeBe & CeCe Winans

The youngest brother, Benjamin (BeBe Winans), and his younger sister, Priscilla (CeCe Winans), formed the duo BeBe & CeCe Winans. They started as backup singers for Andrae Crouch in the 1970s. They became very popular after singing a gospel version of the song "Up Where We Belong" on a Christian TV show. They released their first album in 1984. BeBe & CeCe are the most well-known members of the Winans family and are considered gospel music legends. They even worked with their good friend, Whitney Houston. Both BeBe and CeCe have also had very successful solo careers. CeCe Winans is the best-selling gospel artist of all time, with many Grammy Awards. She also started her own record label, PureSprings Gospel.

Angie and Debbie Winans

Sisters Angie and Debbie Winans are the youngest of the ten siblings. In 1990, they wrote and sang a popular song called "Be With You" with Ben Tankard. Their first album, "Angie and Debbie," came out in 1993 and featured Whitney Houston on background vocals for one song. Angie Winans released a solo album in 2001, and Debbie Winans later released a children's album.

Winans Phase 2

Winans Phase 2 was a group formed in 1998. It included Marvin Winans Jr., Carvin Winans Jr., Michael Winans Jr., and Juan Winans (Carvin Sr.'s son). They released one album in 1999 called We Got Next. Michael Winans Jr. has also written and produced songs for many famous artists.

3 Winans Brothers

In 2013, Carvin Winans, Marvin Winans, and BeBe Winans formed a new group called 3 Winans Brothers. They released their first album, Foreign Land, in 2014, which was very successful on the Billboard Top 10 Gospel Charts.

Vickie Winans

Vickie Winans is a talented solo artist and the former wife of Marvin Winans. She also grew up in a musical family in Detroit. Her first solo album, Be Encouraged, was released in 1987.

Mario Winans

Mario Winans is an R&B artist who debuted in 1997. He had a number one album in 2004. Mario is the son of Vickie Winans and took the Winans name after Vickie married Marvin Winans.
