Mario Mendell Winans (born August 29, 1974) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born in South Carolina. Mario is part of the famous Winans musical family. He is most famous for his 2004 song "I Don't Wanna Know". This song featured singer Enya and rapper P. Diddy. It became a huge hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Before becoming a solo artist, Mario Winans worked as a producer. In the early 1990s, he joined Dallas Austin's Rowdy Records. He helped create music for artists like R. Kelly and Pebbles. Later, he signed with Motown and released his first album, Story of My Heart, in 1997.

In 1998, he started working with P. Diddy and his Bad Boy Records team, known as the Hitmen. Mario Winans helped produce many successful songs for other artists. He also gained attention for singing on P. Diddy's song "Best Friend" in 2000. His 2002 song "I Need a Girl (Part Two)" also became popular. After these successes, Mario Winans signed with Bad Boy Records as a solo singer.

His album Hurt No More came out in 2004. It reached number two on the Billboard 200 album chart. The song "I Don't Wanna Know" was the main single from this album. In 2005, he helped write the song "Pray" for CeCe Winans. This song won a Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance.

Mario Winans has also produced and written songs for many other famous artists. These include the Weeknd, Kanye West, the Notorious B.I.G., Ice Spice, Jennifer Lopez, and Busta Rhymes.

Music Career Highlights

The Hurt No More Album (2001–2005)

Mario Winans worked on his second album, Hurt No More, between 2001 and 2003. He worked on it while also producing music for other artists. The songs on the album tell stories about love and feeling let down.

The first song released from the album was "I Don't Wanna Know". This song used a part of the Fugees' 1996 song "Ready or Not." That Fugees song itself used a slowed-down part of "Boadicea" by Enya. Enya and her team gave permission for Mario Winans and P. Diddy to use her music. Enya even re-recorded her part for the song. The song gave credit to "Mario Winans featuring P. Diddy and Enya." P. Diddy also added a rap to the song.

"I Don't Wanna Know" was released in early 2004. It quickly became a hit all over the world. It reached number one in Germany and the United Kingdom. In the United States, it was number one on the rhythmic radio chart. It also reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the US R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart. The song was also a top ten hit in Australia and Norway.

The album Hurt No More was released on April 20, 2004. By June 2004, it was number one on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It also reached number two on the overall Billboard 200 album chart and number three on the UK Albums Chart.

The second song from the album was "Never Really Was." This song used a part of Madonna's 1986 song "Papa Don't Preach" as its background music. However, "Never Really Was" did not become a big hit in North America. A different version of the song was released with rapper Lil Flip.

The song "This Is the Thanks I Get" was planned to be the third song released from the album. However, it was never officially released as a single. It did reach number 12 on the Billboard Bubbling Under R&B chart.
