She has sold over 19 million records, making her one of the top-selling gospel music artists. CeCe first became famous in the 1980s as part of the duo BeBe & CeCe Winans with her brother, BeBe Winans. Later, she started her own very successful solo career.

Early Life of CeCe Winans

Priscilla Marie Winans was born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 8, 1964. Her parents were Delores and David Winans. They were part of the famous Winans family gospel group. CeCe is one of 10 children! Her parents were very religious and only listened to gospel music. CeCe sang her first solo song when she was just eight years old.

Singing with BeBe Winans

In 1981, CeCe Winans went to Charlotte, North Carolina. She sang on a Christian TV show called The PTL Club. At first, she was part of the larger Winans family singing group. But soon, CeCe and her older brother BeBe became a duo. People really loved their version of the song "Up Where We Belong" with Christian lyrics.

In 1984, CeCe and BeBe released their first album, Lord Lift Us Up. They became very popular, even outside of gospel music. As BeBe & CeCe Winans, they released nine Gold and Platinum albums. A Gold album means it sold 500,000 copies, and a Platinum album means it sold 1 million! CeCe left the TV show in 1984, and BeBe left in 1985. Their second album, BeBe & CeCe Winans, came out in 1987. Their album Different Lifestyles was the first gospel album by artists to sell over a million copies.

CeCe Winans' Solo Career

CeCe Winans started her solo career in 1995 with the album Alone in His Presence. This album was a huge success, selling over a million copies. It was only the third gospel album ever to do so! This album won her a Grammy Award and two Dove Awards.

In 1998, she released Everlasting Love, which also sold very well. It included popular songs like "Well Alright" and "Slippin'". Later that year, she released His Gift, a holiday album.

After a short break, CeCe returned in 2003 with Throne Room. She went on a big tour for this album, offering free admission to her concerts. In 2004, CeCe had a serious stomach infection and needed surgery. This caused her to postpone some of her tour dates.

Her seventh album, Purified, came out in 2005. Her nephew, Mario Winans, helped produce some of the songs. Her son, Alvin III, also helped write some songs.

One of CeCe's most famous songs is "Count On Me". This was a duet with her close friend, Whitney Houston. The song was certified Gold and became a top hit on many music charts.

In 2008, she released Thy Kingdom Come. In 2009, she reunited with her brother BeBe for a new album called Still.
