Early Life and Education
Deborah Joy Winans was born in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents are Carvin and Deborah Kerr Winans. She grew up in a family deeply connected to music.
Deborah worked hard in school. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Wayne State University. To further her acting skills, she also spent a month training at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia. Later, she received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in acting from the California Institute of the Arts.
Starting Her Acting Career
Deborah Joy Winans began her acting journey in 2014. Her first role was in a small film called Fragile World. Soon after, she got a big opportunity. She was chosen to play her aunt, the famous singer CeCe Winans, in the TV movie Whitney. This film was directed by the well-known actress Angela Bassett.
After her film roles, Deborah also performed on stage. She made her theater debut in a musical. The show was called Born for This: The BeBe Winans Story.
